School Board

The School Board consists of representatives from parents/guardians, staff and the community. The Board works with the school community to achieve the best outcomes for students.

Some of the roles of the School Board are to:

• Establish and review the school’s objectives, priorities and policy directions.
• Engage in financial planning to support the school’s objectives, priorities and policy directions.
• Promote the school in the local community.
• Determine dress code for the students.
• Approve student fees and charges and booklists.

The Board makes these decisions with the Principal (who is an ex officio member of the School Board) and other relevant decision makers, who ensure the decisions adhere to legislative and policy requirements.

It plays an important role in contributing to good school governance ensuring school resources are used efficiently, and community expectations and the school’s priorities reflect the needs of students.

The Board does not intervene in the control or management of the school. This is the role of the Principal.

Parent/Guardian members are selected by a nomination and election process and voted on by parents/guardians when positions become vacant. Staff members are selected by a nomination and election process and voted on by staff as positions become vacant. Community members are selected by the Board. Board members join for a two-year term.
