At our school, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a challenging and comprehensive educational program within a caring and nurturing school.

Your child’s individual academic and social needs will be met within a school that values achievement, respect, tolerance, and perseverance. Our professional and experienced teachers are committed to ensuring that all students strive to excel.

At Katanning Senior High School, the success of our students is demonstrated by direct entry into university, apprenticeships, traineeships or employment. Graduates from Katanning Senior High School achieve in many different areas including business, academia, trades, teaching and human services.

The mission of the Bush Ranger Cadet program is to support young Western Australians to take an active and lead role in the conservation of the natural environment and to understand the mechanisms for its management.

Lower school students have one lesson a week in the STEM room where they develop their capabilities in critical and creative thinking as they learn to: generate and evaluate knowledge, clarify concepts and ideas, seek possibilities, consider alternatives, and solve problems.

With the Great Southern Trade Training Centre on site, KSHS Students get an early start towards a Vocational Pathway in the Automotive and Engineering Industries if they choose to. The facilities include vehicle hoists, CNC Plasma cutter, CNC Lathes, and Miling Machines, Hydraulic guillotine and Pan brake and a host of Welding Technologies.

Katanning Senior High School offers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students the opportunity to participate in the Follow the Dream: Partnerships for Success program (FTD).

🌈 Are Packaged Foods Healthy? 🌈
Shared by School Health Nurse Jess
It can feel tricky to choose healthy options when so many snacks come in packets!
Here’s what you need to know:
🔍 Ultra-processed foods often contain added sweeteners, colors, flavors, and preservatives. They’re usually high in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats, which can increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
✅ Packaged food can be healthy—it depends on the ingredients and processing.
Tip: Always check the Nutrition Information Panel and look for:
✔ Low saturated fat, salt, and sugar
✔ High fibre
Try these healthy snacks and drinks instead:
🍿 Plain popcorn or rice crackers
🥛 Water or plain milk
🥞 Plain pikelets or crumpets
🥣 Plain yoghurt
🍎 Fruit and nut mix
💡 Small swaps make a big difference for your family’s health!

KSHS was well-represented at the Katanning Remembrance Day service held in town. Our school captains Leah Edwards and Dylan Quartermaine attended along with Isaac Anderson as a Katanning army cadets representative and Zavier Potter as a representative for Katanning Scouts. The students were accompanied by our Senior School Year Coordinator and HASS teacher Ms Tonga. Leah, Dylan, and Zavier laid flowers as a symbol of respect for the fallen while Isaac had the important honour of manning the flag. Our students showcased our PBS values beautifully through the solemn respect they brought to the occasion and displayed great maturity when mingling with special guests such as the Katanning Shire president and councillors.
Meanwhile, back at school, all staff and students paused their work to participate in a special service over the PA. Wade Green led the opening and conclusion of the service, explaining that Remembrance Day is a day when we remember all those who have served in conflict. Thomas Wilson-Hayden gave a special Acknowledgement of Country with recognition of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women who have fought in combat. Tiarna Clifford, Annalyce Hogan-Jackson, and Isla Maclennan gave a solemn recital of the poem “The Farmer Remembers the Somme” which tells the story of a farmer who returns from World War 1 only to mentally still see the horrors of the river Somme in France where he fought. Finally, Angel Hall led our staff and students in a minute of silence along with the Last Post, Rouse, and National Anthem. Thank you to Mr Ly for assisting our students.
